The story of Titanic

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet led the Titanic cast, and the widely celebrated film tells a story of a young couple’s love despite coming from different worlds. Inspired by the sinking of the RMS Titanic, the story incorporated both historical and fictional elements. DiCaprio played the role of Jack, a poor, young artist who won his ticket on the ship’s maiden voyage in a game of poker. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Rose, played by Kate Winslet, is aboard the ship with her wealthy soon-to-be-husband and widowed mother.

Rose’s marriage is arranged for financial stability, and saddened by the lack of love between she and her fiancée, Rose intends to commit suicide by jumping over the stern railing of the ship. Discovered by Jack, he convinces her to come down and this initial meeting leads them down a path of a whirlwind romance, despite Rose being promised to another.

The two fall deeply in love despite coming from different worlds. When the ship collides with an iceberg, so begins the tragedy of the film as it sinks deeper into the freezing ocean and the two must navigate what’s ahead of them.

In present day, an elderly and still-living Rose recalls her experience in flashbacks — and recalls all the treasures she found, and lost, on that fated voyage.
