Winter Storm Inga to Bring ‘Dangerous Ice’ to Many States This Week

Bundle up, because there’s a new winter storm named Inga brewing as we speak. It’s set to bring cold temps and snowfall through the Midwest, Northeast, and South early this week, according to The Weather Channel.

Winter Storm Inga brings with it several winter storm warnings, watches, and weather advisories all across the nation. Warnings have been issued from central Texas to parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi, and advisories have been issued across much of the Midwest. Watches are in effect in parts of Alabama, Mississippi, and southern New England. But perhaps the most daunting part of the storm is the incoming dangerous ice expected from it. This ice is especially possible in parts of central Texas.

Where is the snowstorm?

By late Monday night, freezing rain and sleet combined with the light snow already on the ground may turn road conditions hazardous. But Texas isn’t the only state with a risk of dangerous driving conditions; roads in several Midwestern cities like Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and Cincinnati are also expected to be affected by the snow as well as reduction in visibility. Additionally, drivers in Louisiana and Tennessee are encouraged to exercise caution on the roads — particularly on bridges and overpasses.

Unfortunately, dangerous driving conditions are expected to continue throughout Tuesday as well, as the sleet and ice mix will likely persist in many of those same regions. Snowfall is also expected to affect the New England area.

By Wednesday, a mixture of snow and rain is expected over much of the East Coast, with a possibility of more wintry mix happening in Texas yet again. Yikes! If you live in any of the mentioned regions, we highly recommend tuning in to your local weather station and monitoring the situation closely.

How much snow will there be?

Winter Storm Inga is expected to bring a few inches of snow to areas in the Midwest — but in some areas, like northern Wisconsin, as much as a foot may be possible. A light accumulation of snow can be expected in the South, along with slickening sleet and freezing rain. Most locations on the East Coast can expect no more than three inches of snow.

Meanwhile, it sounds like we have yet another reason to stay inside this week with a cup of hot cocoa. If you must go outside, though, be sure to dress warmly and drive carefully. Stay safe out there, folks!
