5 Easy Ways to Decorate Your Home Like a Pro for Christmas

Christmas is my favorite time of year, and it’s just around the corner — but there’s no need to cry or pout! I’ve got some easy and cost-effective ways to glam up your home and give you some instant Christmas cheer without breaking the bank. We all have our own take on what this joyful time should look like.

It might be the traditional white Christmas, or something more unique and different. Whatever your take is, it’s not difficult to add some glam and a festive look at the same time. So let’s get started!

Good First Impressions

Your front door is like your greeting card — it’s what your visitors — however few they may be this year — see first. It makes a statement about who you are and is a great place to start for any decorative celebration!

A traditional wreath made out of holly looks great, and you can add your own personal touch with shining ornaments or include some glamorous flowers or decorative fruit for a feeling of abundance.

For a simple yet effective look, tie ribbon to some ornaments and hang at different lengths from the top of the front door using drawing pins.

Dinning Table

You don’t need to be having a meal to enjoy a wonderful Christmas table. A centerpiece made from scented candles will smell wonderful during the day and look warm and inviting at night! Add some green foliage around the base, a bit of Christmas bling with some decorations, and you’ve made a festive masterpiece.

A great idea is to use tall glass vases and simply fill them with colored ornaments of your choice to create a striking centerpiece that’s colorful and makes an instant impact for your friends to admire!

Decorating the Tree

The most obvious of Christmas symbols is the tree! The decorating of trees inside our homes has become a great tradition that everyone can enjoy.

Some still enjoy the look and smell of a real tree in their homes, but for many the fold-away species is an easier option. Green is still the most popular choice, but a white version teamed with the right colored decorations can look amazing.

There are also one-dimensional tree cut-outs available, where the decorations can hang inside a frame for a modern look. If you’re space poor, decorations and Christmas cards tacked on the wall in a tree shape can create the same feeling, while still looking glamorous. An old tradition, which is returning, is to bake gingerbread cookies and hang them on a tree with ribbon. They look (and taste) great.

DIY Decorations

For me, Christmas is all about spending time together and what better way than to grab the kids or some friends, maybe a glass of wine, and make your very own decorations.

Animal shapes like reindeer cut out of thick cardboard and tied with ribbon are simple yet effective. You can trace an outline from a book.

Add colored paper, maybe use wrapping paper or add some glitter. If you have old decorations, don’t throw them out. Try respraying them in a glossy new color.

Candles and More Candles

There’s always something spiritual and calming about candles, which makes them the perfect choice for the Christmas season.

Try using a range of sizes and types of candlestick holders, as this will create different heights and add interest to your display. A great safe option is to use flameless candles. You can then place them in your window sills for a cute, bright addition. How fun!
