The Best Airports for Not Getting Flight Delays During Thanksgiving
No matter how much you love seeing your family at Thanksgiving, we’re betting you probably still dread Thanksgiving flights. Even for the most well-seasoned traveler, Thanksgiving airport travel can be a pain; long security lines, stressed-out travelers, and crowded terminals are staples at the airport during that time of year. But arguably the worst nuisance during Thanksgiving flights? Those pesky flight delays.
There’s nothing more annoying than being all packed up and ready to board a plane to see your loved ones (and that delicious pumpkin pie) than being told your flight will be taking off later… much later… than expected. Luckily, travel company RewardExpert has done us all a favor in rounding up the 45 busiest U.S. airports for Thanksgiving travel and ranking them from best to worst when it comes to flight delays. File this under “very useful” for preparing for what to expect when we travel this holiday season, and, ahem, when we book any future flights.
Thanksgiving Airport Travel
Good news if you’re flying out of the Honolulu airport in Hawaii — your airport gets first prize at the best chance to avoid Thanksgiving flight delays. You can also give yourself a pat on the back iif you’re flying out of the other airports that follow: Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta, Douglas in Charlotte, Southwest Florida, and Salt Lake City, which also give you a good chance of flying out on time.
In case you’re wondering, the San Francisco airport is the worst one in terms of on-time performance during Thanksgiving. It’s followed by Newark Liberty, Oakland, William P. Hobby in Houston, and Sacramento. So if you’re departing from any of those airports, it’s probably wise to bring a fun book or magazine to read in case of a wait.
P.S. It also never hurts to look at pictures of Thanksgiving food to get you excited for the feast to come!
