Pickle Candy Canes Exist Because the World Is a Weird, Amazing Place
If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Gee, I love candy canes, but I wish there were a savory version,” you’re in luck. For those who don’t love sweets — or even those holidayers who are interested in more weird candy cane flavors — meet the pickle candy cane.
In 2016, pickle candy canes stormed onto the market and promptly sold out, proving this holiday treat was kind of a big dill. This year, they’re back — and the internet is just as divided as it was last year, with reactions running the gamut from outrage and disgust to confusion and even excitement. “Gross! I LOVE pickles. In fact, I am a pickle ADDICT. I dunno what they were thinking, they left the peppermint flavor in with the pickle flavor!!!! Ewwwwww,” one Amazon user wrote in a review. Others thought they would make great gag gifts. Others still were worried about what this meant for future candy cane flavors.
On Amazon, a pack of six candy canes is $13.99 — a bit steep for candy canes, but the experience is surely priceless. Accoutrements, the Amazon retailer selling pickle candy canes, also stocks wasabi-, bacon-, and coffee-flavored candy canes. We’re not so sure about wasabi and bacon (a spicy, minty candy? Yuck!), but a java-flavored candy cane doesn’t sound half bad. We imagine it would taste like a cub of joe that’s been stirred with a peppermint stick.
If you use these as stocking stuffers, we take no responsibility if your not-so-impressed loved ones give you a lump of coal in return. That said, if you’re sick and tired of the kids eating all the candy canes off the tree before you’ve even gotten one (even though you paid for them, of course), why not surprise them with a pickle candy cane. That’ll teach ’em!
Buy it now: Pickle candy canes ($13.99, Amazon).
