While sprinkling baking soda every now and again will help do the trick, this one-time tip is foolproof and requires little to no energy.

Cotton Ball Life Hack

All you’ll need is a cotton ball and one of your favorite smelling essential oils. Just soak the cotton ball in the oil and drop it under the liner of your trash can, and presto! No one will ever know you had leftovers.

Why essential oils?

Essential oils won’t magically take the trash out for you, but they will mask the smell until you’re ready to haul it outside to the curb. Leaving a small oil-infused puff ball in the bottom of your trash can will not only keep the area’s aroma down, it can help keep the area clean. That’s because some oils have additional benefits besides just smelling pretty. Tea tree oil, for example, helps to combat bacteria, removes mold, and can be used as an insect repellant.
