Kelly Ripa’s Secret to Staying Fit and Toned at 48 Includes Cheat Meals
As anyone who tunes into Live! With Kelly and Ryan on a daily basis knows, host Kelly Ripa maintains an incredible figure. At 48, she hasn’t changed a bit since her early days acting with hubby Mark Consuelos on All My Children. So, what’s her secret to staying so fit?
Obviously, Ripa spends plenty of time working out to keep things so toned. She’s talked on her show and her Instagram page about being a fan of the Anna Kaiser Technique (AKT), which is a dance-based exercise routine. “I think I’ve aged out of going clubbing,” she told People, “Really, that’s my nightclub. Everybody there is my age, so it’s like a bunch of us old ladies working out.” Sounds like a fun way to get in shape to us, too!
When it comes to the food she eats, Ripa is a fan of the high alkaline diet. It all starts with a seven-day liquid-only cleanse (click here for a sample alkaline cleanse menu). Ross Bridgeford, the author of The Alkaline Reset Cleanse: The 7-Day Reboot for Unlimited Energy, Rapid Weight Loss, and the Prevention of Degenerative Disease ($17.10, Amazon), explains: “Putting rocket fuel into a beat-up old car isn’t going to turn it into a rocket. You first have to unclog and rebalance your systems to reboot your body into a state where it can run optimally.”
After that, the trick is to avoid food with high acidic levels, including sneakily acidic foods like fish and sugar. It might sound a bit extreme, but Ripa doesn’t stick to it rigorously. “I like to drink coffee. I occasionally have fish. I like to have a glass of wine,” she admits, “So I don’t adhere to it strictly, but when I do a cleanse, it will be seven days, and then I go back to normal life.” Even with cheat days, there’s no denying the talk show host’s results.
And since we’re only human, we can’t help but notice (and swoon) over Consuelos’ impressive physique as well. “My husband has gone full keto,” she told Bon Appétit. “Which I don’t mind telling you is something I could never do. I just don’t have that level of discipline. Mark says that I’m carb-o, because I always eat his bun if he gets a burger. And the fries.” Hey, we don’t blame her! We don’t want all those yummy carbs to go to waste.
Ripa clearly has a good handle on the balance between indulging and staying healthy without taking things too seriously or obsessing over every bite.
