Celebrities’ last words before death have always been a source of public fascination, sadness, and occasionally, chills. But in this day and age, we not only have last words–we also have last tweets.

And stars’ last tweets, much like their last words spoken, can be revealing or shocking. They can also be very ordinary and run-of-the-mill, not unlike anything they would’ve tweeted any other day.

Take a look back at some of the most beloved celebrities’ last words on Twitter before they passed away. Some may truly surprise you.

  1. Last Words Joan Rivers

    The world-famous comedienne, who passed away on Sept. 4, 2014 at age 81, was clearly cracking jokes up until the very end.
