David Cassidy Reveals Struggles After Life-Changing Diagnosis
Our thoughts and prayers are with David Cassidy after he revealed some upsetting health news.
The 66-year-old told People that he is suffering from dementia, something that is all too familiar for The Partridge Family, star. Cassidy’s grandfather and mother both battled dementia, and he describes watching his mom “disappear” into the disease.
“In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room. … I feared I would end up that way,” he said of his mother’s struggle.
As a result of his diagnosis, the ’70s heartthrob has decided to stop touring. Instead, he will devote his free time to his well-being.
“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” he says. “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”
Cassidy has had his share of ups and downs. At a recent show in Agoura Hills, CA, he had trouble remembering the lyrics to his songs and almost fell off the stage. Fortunately, fans and co-stars are already sharing their support in the wake of his big reveal. Actor Danny Bonaduce tweeted a message about his TV brother asking fans to keep him in their thoughts.
“David Cassidy once had a bigger fan club than Elvis & the Beatles,” he wrote. “If you’re a fan, now is a great time to send him your love & best wishes.”
