Cate Blanchett’s DIY Secret to Ageless, Glowing Skin
Actress Cate Blanchett is known for her beautiful and seemingly ageless porcelain skin, and we recently found out that she swears by an all-natural beauty treatment she makes all by herself! It can often feel like it’s not worth it to put in the effort to make homemade beauty products, but when endorsed by a celebrity with such an awe-worthy complexion, we think it deserves some exploring.
To keep her skin clear and dewey, Cate revealed to InStyle UK that she uses a homemade face scrub loaded with age-fighting ingredients. The combination is simple and only requires three things: macadamia or olive oil, grapefruit juice, and sea salt. She raved about the mixture, saying, “Olive and macadamia oils are really good for your complexion. Put one of them on in the shower and they make your skin zing.”
“I incorporate them into a homemade scrub with grapefruit juice and sea salt — a beauty trick taught to me by a friend of mine.” Who knew?!
And there’s definitely something to the actress’s skin hack. Grapefruit juice is rich in antioxidants which promote oxidation of skin cells and encourage cell renewal, helping to fight signs of skin aging. It’s also rich in vitamin C which is found in so many face serums and beauty products as it’s known for encouraging bright, healthy skin. Olive oil and macadamia oil are nourishing to the skin as they provide moisture, while the sea salt acts as a gentle exfoliant to slough off dead skin, revealing a dewey, glowing complexion.
And Cate went on to praise her simple-yet-effective beauty routine in the interview, saying “I feel like my skin has looked its best in the past 10 years in terms of stability and how even it is, purely because I have maintained a good regime with amazing products. And they have to work hard with all the abuse it gets, what with lack of sleep, my children and a busy schedule.” Girl, we’re right there with you.
To make a scrub like Cate’s at home, just combine two tablespoons either olive or macadamia oil, juice from a quarter slice of a grapefruit, and ½ cup fine sea salt in a small bowl. The mixture should form a slightly-gritty paste. Apply to the face in the shower, rubbing gently to remove any dead skin. As always, try a test patch of your mixture on your skin before applying to your face. You should be left feeling clean and glowy for the rest of the day! And by all means, if you want to make enough to cover your whole body, why not?
