Alan Jackson Loses a Beloved Family Member

The new year is off to a rough start for singer Alan Jackson. The 58-year-old recently said goodbye to a loved one, and country fans everywhere are mourning.

Jackson announced that his mother Ruth, affectionately known as Mama Ruth, had passed peacefully on Jan. 7 at home in Newnan, GA. She was 86.

Mama Ruth and her husband Eugene, who died in 2000, were married in 1946. They had four daughters and Alan. She is survived by all her children, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Jackson’s fans cherished Mama Ruth as much as they did her son. She was often the inspiration for much of his music, including his song “Home,” and she would accompany her son at award shows.
