You might know Debra Messing as the quirky fashion designer from Will and Grace or the tough detective from The Mysteries of Laura, but behind the cameras, she’s a caring mother with a passion for health and fitness, just like the rest of us!
Since she stays in such great shape, it’s no surprise that she maintains a strictly clean diet. However, while chatting with FirstforWomen.com, she shared quite a few useful health tips, and one of them just happens to be CoolSculpting — a new and innovative way to get rid of unwanted fat.
The actress practically beamed while talking about her new partnership with the brand, which aims to help people eliminate fat bulges in areas like their stomach, arms, and legs. These non-surgical treatments (which are completely safe and FDA-approved) involve freezing your fat cells with an applicator, and once those fat cells are frozen solid, they die and get removed from the body naturally.
“The thing that I love about CoolSculpting is that it’s completely noninvasive. There’s no downtime. I was able to literally just walk into the dermatologist’s office, sit in a chair, they put the machine on me, I did my work on my phone. Thirty-five minutes later they came in, ‘you’re done!’” Debra exclusively told us. Color us impressed!

The process usually takes three months, but Debra revealed that she has been on these treatments for over a month and a half — and she has already seen some results! But while looking fit is very important to her, she explained that CoolSculpting is much more than just a shortcut for looking slimmer.
“For me it feels empowering. It’s not about becoming perfect, it’s not about trying to reach some sort of idealized idea of beauty, it’s about: I like myself, I embrace myself, I just want to be a slightly better version of myself. I want to be able to stand tall and be confident and feel good in my clothes,” she revealed.
While her CoolSculpting treatments have already started to work wonders for her body, part of the credit still goes to her healthy diet. And lucky for us, she shared some amazing advice for how to stay in shape!

Debra Health Tip 3
Start your day with protein.
"[You can] make poached eggs or make scrambled eggs, start your day with eggs and it’ll start you off on the right foot. You won’t eat as much later on in the day if you have a good protein in the morning," the actress said.
Debra Health Tip 7
Find out what foods slow you down and cut them out of your diet.
“I immediately started to change my diet, to try and cut out anything that would slow me down or be tough on my system. I've cut out sugar, cut out gluten, cut out dairy, cut out wheat, cut out coffee, cut out alcohol. Slowly I started feeling like I had more energy, and I had more clarity and my eyes were clearer, and I was able to remember my lines better,” Debra said.
Debra Health Tip 1
If you want to eat healthier, start by cutting out sugar.
“Sugar is just really terrible for you. I mean, I grew up with sugar, I grew up on candy. You can't do anything too extreme because you won't stick with it, so I think I would say, just try to slowly make different choices. So if you have a sweet tooth, instead of getting another candy, have bananas in the house, have grapes in the house, have berries in the house," she said.
Debra Health Tip 2
If you can’t eliminate sugar right away, start with swapping out the sweets for cinnamon.
"Have other things like cinnamon, it will take care of your sweet tooth. Have cinnamon and put it on your berries," Debra said.
Debra Health Tip 4
Keep a healthy snack on you at all times.
“I have like ziplocks filled with nuts, it’s always in my bag so that at least if I start feeling hungry, I’m not gonna rush to McDonald’s. At least I have something with me all the time that will take the edge off,” she said.
Debra Health Tip 6
If you want clearer skin, try out this apple cider vinegar mixture.
“I try and drink apple cider vinegar and turmeric and lemon. I put that into hot water in the morning and, from everything I’ve read, it’s supposed to be great for your skin,” she said.
Debra Health Tip 5
Incorporate these power foods into your diet to stay energized throughout the day.
“[I have] Quinoa and avocado and eggs, [and] green juices. Every morning I have a green juice,” she said.
Debra Health Tip 8
Make sure to stay hydrated.
While giving her advice on how busy moms can stay healthy, she said, "[drink] tons of water!"
Debra Health Tip 9
Make sure you're getting your Vitamin C on a regular basis.
"What I like to do is have a vitamin c bar, I always have it in my bag," the actress said.
Try out CoolSculpting!
"This is not for people who want the results of a liposuction without having to do a liposuction, it's not that drastic, but it definitely is a change. I look better in my clothes, I feel better, and it's just enough," she said.
