Brazen Bride Asks Bridal Party to Lose Weight, But We Think They’re Perfect the Way They Are

We hope you’re sitting down for this wedding story. Because the ceremony hasn’t even happened yet, and it’s pretty much already guaranteed to be a doozy.

Bride-to-be Ashley Barton is demanding that her entire bridal party lose weight for her wedding. Yes, really. While it’s common for many brides to be concerned about “shedding for the wedding,” they’re usually just focused on their own weight loss goals in their own wedding story. But not Barton.

“I need everyone on board,” she said in an interview with The New York Post. “I want my guests to invest in their appearances, feel pretty, go buy the dress of their dreams and feel confident in themselves. I want everyone to feel and look beautiful.”

Barton has lost 33 pounds so far in her weight loss journey. Though reaching your own weight loss goals is admirable, it certainly seems out of the ordinary to force your goals on someone else. She is even demanding that one of her friends who recently had a baby to join in on weight loss.

But her maid-of-honor is understanding of these demands.

Sheena Malik said, “Wedding photos are shared more now, so it’s important to look good.”

While many bridesmaids like Barton’s are accepting of the social media pressure to slim down and get fit to be part of their friend’s wedding story, other bridesmaids at other weddings aren’t so understanding.

A woman named Mandy from Texas is part of a different wedding—her sister’s. She said her sister is telling her to grow her hair out, avoid dyeing her hair anything but blonde, and get a spray tan.

“I’m pretty sure if I weren’t already attempting to get in shape, she’d probably make comments about that too,” she said. “I guess she wants everyone to look picture-perfect, otherwise they might distract from her looking fabulous.”

Wow! Well, we think that a wedding in of itself is a beautiful thing. And anyone who is important enough to be part of that beautiful thing is beautiful just the way they are, too.

What do you think?
