Deaf Girl Hears for the First Time, But Watch What Happens When Her Mom Gets Emotional
Even though she’s only 2 years old, little Teyana Skye Gladden hasn’t had the easiest life. Born premature and with a heart defect, the toddler has undergone several open heart surgeries. Because of her health issues, she’s suffered a total hearing loss in one ear and partial loss in the other.
Despite her tough life, she remains a happy, smiling, giggling little girl. And thanks to a device called a bone anchor implant, she can hear again. And her mom caught it all on camera!

For the tool to work correctly, a sound processor is attached to the skull bone. When the doctor snaps in the sound processor, which is attached to a headband, Teyana’s sweet eyes light up as she realizes she can hear her mom’s voice loud and clear. As if her reaction wasn’t sweet enough, you can tell just how much her momma loves her when she shows Teyana the matching headband and sound processor she got for Teyana’s teddy bear.
As the doctor runs some hearing tests, Olga Arnold, Teyana’s mom, starts to cry. “She’s talking louder,” her mom tearfully says to the doctor. And Teyana turns to her mom and says, “It’s OK, momma!” before running over to hug her mom. Prior to her hearing aid, Teyana would whisper her words, so hearing her daughter speak at a normal level immediately made her emotional. So sweet!

Unfortunately, this isn’t the end of Teyana’s treatments. Her parents have a GoFundMe page set up to offset travel costs as well as medical expenses for her heart surgeries. “I’m catching up with the help of all my therapy. I am on 5 medications and see 7 different doctors for all my health issues. It’s a lot on me but through this all I keep a smile on my face,” her parents wrote on the page. As it stands, they are very close to their goal of $7,800.
What an amazing little girl. We’re rooting for you, Teyana!
