Thomas Rhett’s Family Just Grew By One!

Congratulations to Thomas Rhett! The country star and his wife Lauren have just welcomed their first child—all the way from Uganda!

The Rhetts, who are expecting their first biological child together, decided to adopt a little girl named Willa Gray Akins after Lauren visited Uganda with the charity 147 Million Orphans. At the time of her trip, she was having difficulty conceiving a child naturally.

But when she saw little Willa for the first time, her husband couldn’t help but notice the immediate impact the baby had on her, after seeing a picture of her holding the little one in her arms.

“Lauren had this amazing glow about her and it just felt like she was already our daughter in a weird way,” Thomas said. “‘I just blurted out, ‘We should bring her home.’”

And that’s exactly what they did.

Thomas and Lauren’s adoption journey was a long time coming. It took them a whole year to get documents in order to bring her home, but the extra effort didn’t deter them in the least bit. And now, Thomas says it feels like Christmas in May.

Lauren adds, “It felt like a dream. I’ve dreamed of us all being on the same continent for so long. It finally feels like everyone is where they’re supposed to be.”

The Rhetts are due to bring home another baby girl this summer. But in the meantime, we’re sure they’re enjoying every minute with their first little bundle of joy. As they should.
