After a Friend’s Heartbreaking Facebook Post, She Lost 40 Pounds to Save Him

It’s not unusual to hear a woman’s weight loss story that talks about how she saved her own life. But this woman lost weight in order to save someone else’s life instead.

Rebekah Ceidro weighed more than 200 pounds and made a habit of dropping food into the fryer whenever she got hungry when she received the horrible news that a close friend of hers was in desperate need of a kidney transplant.

Chris Moore, who had always suffered from chronic kidney disease, explained in a heartbreaking Facebook post that he would now need either a transplant or dialysis in six months to a year in order to live.

“I just kept seeing the post and it would tug at my heart. You don’t think about things like that when you are 30 years old,” Rebekah said. “You think about when you are going to get married, not ‘How am I going to save my own life?’”

But she wasn’t seeing any call to action from his friends or followers. So she decided she would make an action by herself—by donating her own kidney. She contacted Chris, who as fate would have it, had the same blood type as her.

There was one problem though: She was too heavy to be a donor and would have to lose at least 15 pounds to do it.

So Rebekah immediately changed her lifestyle, getting involved with fitness and running. And before she knew it, 40 pounds had slipped away.

And now, within a few months, she’ll be able to save her friend because of it. In prep for the surgery, Chris sees her as not only his donor, but his inspiration to go on.

“I use her courage to give myself courage,” Chris said. “If she can do this, then I can do this.”
