The Cheap, Easy, and Seriously Simple Way to Make Boxed Brownie Mix Taste SO Much Better

View gallery

There’s nothing wrong with using boxed brownie mix! Don’t let anyone convince you that you have to make yours from scratch–unless you have the time and you’re interested in doing it.

The truth is, you can fudge a fancy brownie recipe with just boxed brownie mix and one other ingredient. The woman behind the blog All Things Thrifty has been doing this for years, and someone asks her for the recipe every time she makes them. You’ll see why.

Half of the prepared brownie mix is put into a baking dish, and that’s where things get magical. She breaks apart two Hershey’s Symphony bars, filled with crunchy toffee bits, and layers them on top of the brownie batter. Then she just uses the reserved half of the batter to cover up the chocolate bars.

Before you know it, rich toffee-studded brownies come out of the oven. They look like you slaved away baking the rich chocolate batter by hand, and your guests will be none the wiser–unless you generously decide to share your secret.
