Restaurant Chain Sweetgreen Releases Recipe for Their Famous Green Goddess Ranch Dressing
As someone who doesn’t naturally gravitate towards greens, I’m always trying to find new ways to spruce up my veggies. After all, no one wants to eat a sad desk salad for lunch every day! So when Sweetgreen recently released the recipe for a fan-favorite salad dressing, I knew I had to try it out immediately.
For those who haven’t heard of it, Sweetgreen is a Los Angeles-based fast-casual food chain that serves salads, grain bowls, and a number of other dishes. While the brand actually originated in the Washington DC area before moving its headquarters out west, it has locations in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, and Florida, to name a few.
While the brand has a number of beloved main courses, add-ons, and sides, one that’s constantly raved about is its green goddess ranch dressing. It has the creamy consistency and taste of a traditional ranch dressing but with an added kick (thanks to a little hot sauce!) and a light green look. People have bombarded the company’s social media begging for the recipe for a while, and Sweetgreen finally decided to oblige on TikTok.
Unfortunately, Sweetgreen didn’t give official measurements of anything, but the dressing is a combination of salt, pepper, chopped red onions, garlic, basil, cilantro, parsley, dill, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, Sweetgreen-branded hot sauce, plain yogurt, and mayonnaise.

For my own attempt, I generally eyeballed what Sweetgreen’s account did in its video. I mixed together half a teaspoon of salt and pepper to start, followed by a 1/4 cup of chopped red onions, two full cloves of garlic, and small handfuls of basil, cilantro, parsley, and dill. I then added 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar, a tablespoon of Sriracha, half a cup of plain yogurt, and a tablespoon of mayo (since the video didn’t show how much went in).
I blended it all together, and presto, I had some form of the green goddess dressing! My version tasted a little more tart than the real deal, so I think I added a little too much lemon juice for my taste. Otherwise, I really liked how it turned out! It was creamy, tangy, and rich, and I immediately drizzled it over my salad at lunch and some Brussel sprouts for dinner.
Of course, as soon as Sweetgreen posted the recipe, TikTok users started clamoring for the brand to reveal more of its secrets. Unfortunately, it looks like the company is keeping its lips zipped for the time being, so you may need to wait a little while before getting a few more recipes straight from the source!
