These 7 Fast Food Chains Now Offer Plant-Based ‘Meat’ Options
Trying to cut back on meat? Try these tasty offerings.
These days, the plant-based lifestyle is becoming more and more popular as folks are paying more attention to things like their weight and heart health. The fast-food industry is keen on this upward trend, and many restaurants are doing their best to cater to the changing needs of their customers. Below, check out some fast food restaurants that are now offering plant-based meat options you’ll want to try for yourself!
Pizza Hut
The most recent addition on the plant-based meat trend is Pizza Hut. As of November 10, Pizza Hut has announced a partnership with Beyond Meat and introduced their new “Beyond Italian Sausage” pizza (a cheese pizza topped with Beyond sausage crumbles) and a “Great Beyond” pizza (a veggie pizza also topped with the crumble) that’s now available at all US Pizza Hut locations.
“I’d challenge anyone to go try the new Beyond Pan Pizza and tell the difference,” David Graves, chief brand officer at Pizza Hut, said in a blog post. “I shared it with friends and family, and they couldn’t. The Beyond Italian Sausage is rich, juicy and has the signature Pizza Hut flavors — pizza lovers everywhere are going to love it.”
Burger King
Fans of the infamous Whopper who are trying to cut back on their meat intake rejoiced when Burger King teamed up with Impossible Foods to bring us the Impossible Whopper in April of 2019. The meatless burger rolled out nationwide in August 2019, but came under heavy controversy when it was revealed that the fast-food chain cooked the meatless patties on the same grill as its traditional Whoppers. That being said — strict vegans beware! Otherwise, we hear the Impossible Whopper is nearly indistinguishable from it’s meaty counterpart!
Carl’s Jr.
Carl’s Jr. is known for their big, juicy burgers, but in 2019, the chain also partnered with Beyond Meat to bring you some plant-based options. These include meatless versions of a few of their best selling menu items, the Beyond Famous Star and Beyond BBQ Cheeseburger, along with two meatless breakfast options — the Beyond Sausage Burrito and Beyond Sausage Egg and Cheese.
Del Taco
Del Taco is another famous chain that partnered with Beyond Meats to bring you your favorite tacos, burritos, and more in plant-based options. In fact, you can swap the protein for Beyond Meat in virtually any of the traditional Del Taco menu items and combos!
Dunkin’
The Dunkin’ coffee chain first conducted a test-run of its meatless Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich in New York City. After seeing how successful it was, they officially started offering it on menus nationwide in November of 2019.
While the sandwich itself still has an egg on it (so, not vegan), it’s most certainly worth a try! In a press release about the new offering, Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO said, “We’re excited to introduce the Beyond Sausage Sandwich nationwide and in doing so, offer an option with fewer calories, less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, while delivering more protein and iron than a comparable pork sausage sandwich.”
Subway
Since you could always build a sans meat sandwich at a Subway restaurant, this chain is already a favorite among those with dietary restrictions. Still, Subway restaurants went even further when they started offering a Beyond Meatball Sub at participating locations. Subway also offers a veggie patty (not made by Beyond Meats) that’s made with soy, carrots, corn, and red peppers. However, this one contains eggs so isn’t vegan friendly.
White Castle
One of the first restaurant chains to jump on the meatless train, White Castle started offering their Impossible sliders as early as 2018. The tiny meatless burger patties are actually about double the size of their traditional beef burger patties, and the chain is said to be on the lookout for vegan-friendly cheese options to add to them as well. The Impossible Slider patty is made from soy protein, potato protein, coconut oil, and sunflower oil with “heme” — which is apparently what gives the burger the taste and aroma of meat.
We’re really glad to see the fast food world evolving with the times to include more meat-free options on their menus. So if you’re looking to reduce your meat intake for any reason, give one (or some) of these menu items a try!
