Police Alerted After Illinois Man Puts Mustard on His Pop-Tarts
We’ve seen a lot of odd food mashups lately, but nothing as strange — and gross — as mustard on Pop-Tarts. Fortunately, the popular pastry brand itself seems to agree that this farfetched fusion takes things way too far.
On Twitter, one Illinois man posted a now-deleted tweet that read, “You guys aint [sic] from Illinois if you don’t put mustard on your poptarts [sic],” with an accompanying photo of that exact food combination. (And boy, are we not sorry we missed seeing that picture!)
Anyway, the man’s unconventional pastry choice spread like wildfire on Twitter until it reached the official Pop-Tarts Twitter page. In response, the brand forwarded that tweet to the Illinois State Police. Yes, really.
Pop-Tarts wrote, “@ILStatePolice can you guys handle this.”

Though Pop-Tarts didn’t hear back from the Illinois State Police, the company did hear back from one police department of an Illinois town called Dixon. These cops were more than ready to bring justice to breakfast once more.
“Let us know if they don’t handle this @PopTartsUS, WE will…” the Dixon Police said on Twiiter. “Ain’t nobody puttin’ mustard on their Pop-Tarts in Illinois.”

Pop-Tarts then retweeted the cops’ helpful message with a public thanks: “Due to the severity of the crime, we need all the help we can get.”
Well, in all fairness, it is a crime against food, people.
For anyone who’s been following this story, you’ll be pleased to know that Pop-Tarts believes the fight has been “won,” due to the original poster deleting the offending message.
We don’t know about you, but the only thing we’re adding to our Pop-Tarts is a a bit of warmth, courtesy of the toaster!
