Viral Egg Flights Are a Speedy and Just as Delicious Version of Deviled Eggs: 5 Flavorful Ideas for Toppings

No need to scoop out the yolk for egg flights — simply top each egg halve with ingredients and enjoy!

If you love deviled eggs but hate having to fill them, we found a quicker yet equally delicious alternative: egg flights. This snack consists of boiled egg halves that are topped with ingredients and served on a board. The yolk stays intact so it acts as a sturdy base for any toppings of your choice. These stuffed egg halves are a hit on TikTok, where you can find a variety of flavor combos — some of which are inspired by popular dishes. Keep reading to learn more about egg flights and five mouthwatering ideas to try!

What are egg flights?

Egg flights are typically made by slicing hard boiled eggs in half and topping them with condiments or garnishes. You can top the eggs with the same ingredients or do a different combination for each. These dressed up eggs are a party-perfect option as they’re handheld savory treats. Also, the eggs are packed with protein to satisfy your appetite without hassle. (Read our story on what happens if you eat eggs every day.)

Why is this snack called an egg flight?

While the name may sound a bit odd, a “flight” simply refers to several varieties of a particular food or drink item that are served on a wooden board or tray. It’s a common menu option at restaurants, especially for wine or beer, to give you a sampling of each type. However, egg flights are proving to be a new flight option that’s taking off on social media!

Ingredients:

  • 3 large hard boiled eggs, cooled and peeled
  • Toppings or condiments like mustard, sliced onions, herbs or crumbled bacon

Directions:

  • Yield: 1 to 2 servings

  1. On clean cutting board, slice eggs in half to create 12 halves. Transfer hard boiled egg halves to wooden serving board or platter.
  2. Top eggs with ingredients as desired. Mix-and-match ingredient combos to produce a vibrant egg flight. Once topped, serve immediately.
  3. Note: To avoid watery or mushy stuffed eggs, drain wet ingredients like pickles or bacon before chopping and placing them on top of the halves. Also, feel free to increase the amount of eggs for more servings.
