The basics of egg salad
Traditional egg salad typically contains chopped hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, relish, onions, mustard, salt, pepper and other seasonings. The ingredients are combined until the mixture is well-mixed and still chunky or mostly smooth. Since this salad is easy to customize, many online chefs have found that swapping cottage cheese for mayo provides it with a nutrient and flavor boost.
Nutritional benefits of making egg salad with cottage cheese
Cottage cheese not only adds a tangy flavor to egg salad, but it also packs a protein punch. A ½ cup serving contains around 100 calories, 11 grams of protein and five grams of total fat. How to make cottage cheese egg salad
TikTok creator Madeline Tague (@mad_about_food) shares her simple recipe for this egg salad. In the video, she uses whipped cottage cheese — which adds a smooth and velvety texture to the dish. However, you can use regular small or large curd cottage cheese. Tague also adds two kinds of mustard, yellow and Dijon, for a sharp and pungent taste.
While this recipe is tasty as is, feel free to include the additional ingredients such as chopped onions, lemon juice, horseradish or celery.
