But lately, my inner health nut has been giving me the side-eye every time I reach for a sugary sip. So, when I heard of TikTok’s viral “healthy Coke” trend, I had to find out more. A drink that tastes like Coke without the guilt? Yes, please! Plus, it takes three ingredients and five minutes to make. Spoiler alert: it involves a sparkling drink, ice and something unexpected (hint: it’s not magic beans). Here’s how to make your own healthy coke.

What is the ‘healthy Coke’ TikTok drink?

This viral drink combines three simple ingredients to mimic the taste of traditional Coca-Cola without the sugar and additives. It includes balsamic vinegar, ice and a sparkling beverage, typically soda water. Balsamic vinegar, one of the key ingredients, is rich in antioxidants and has been linked to improved digestion, lower blood sugar levels and reduced cholesterol. Additionally, soda water provides the necessary fizz while being calorie-free and hydrating.

How to make the most authentic ‘healthy Coke’

After searching through numerous reviews from people who have made the drink, I found a few key tips to make it taste as close to Coke as possible:

1. Use a high-quality balsamic vinegar

A high-quality balsamic vinegar is essential for the best flavor. Many reviewers mentioned using fruit-infused vinegars, like fig or balsamic. Remember, the more syrupy and sweet, the better the taste.

2. Add sweetness

To give your drink that familiar vanilla-like sweetness, you’ll need to add something sweet. According to test-testers, pure maple syrup tastes the best. Moreover, any herb-infused simple syrup works over granular sugar, honey or agave.

3. Use a citrus soda water

When it comes to the soda water you use, adding a bit of citrus helps enhance the flavor. Lime-flavored sparkling water works best, but any light-flavor will do, like lemon or grapefruit. Just be sure to avoid any sparkling water with sweeteners or fruit juice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp. fruit-infused balsamic vinegar such as fig, balsamic, or strawberry
  • ½ tsp. pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup lime-flavored soda water

Directions:

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving
  1. Stir together the vinegar and maple syrup in a glass.
  2. Pour soda water in and give it a stir. Fill with ice and enjoy.

Note: If you want to make your drink boozy, add a splash of vodka or rum!
