Add a Shot of Espresso to This Citrusy Drink for the Ultimate Morning Sip

My mornings aren’t complete without a cup of Joe and a glass of orange juice. Both of these drinks have their own distinct flavor — coffee has a rich, nutty taste, and orange juice has bright, citrusy notes. Like anyone, this is why I enjoy them separately and have never thought to mix them together. However, I recently learned that combining espresso and orange juice makes the ultimate drink to start the day off right!

Espresso and coffee might sound like an odd pairing. But Damon Brash, owner of Nami coffee shop, explains that this drink has a cult following, especially in Phoenix, Arizona. This is thanks to the abundance of oranges in the state. Plus, the hot climate calls for sipping colder beverages like iced coffee during the year. “One of our baristas brought it up and I was like, ‘No, it sounds super gross,'” he told MyRecipes. “But we tried it, and I was very surprised how complex and good it was.”

What are the ratios for orange juice and espresso?

A quick recipe for this citrusy, caffeinated sip is available on Golden Brown Coffee’s TikTok ( First, pour one shot of brewed espresso into an eight ounce glass of orange juice, then mix until combined. Taste it and experience the magic yourself!

A quick word of warning: Since coffee and orange juice are both acidic, it’s best to drink this alongside a starchy and mild-tasting breakfast dish like a bowl of oatmeal or avocado toast.
