Brazilian Lemonade Puts a Creamy Spin on the Classic Drink: Easy 5-Ingredient Recipe

This refreshing lemonade is actually made with limes and takes 10 minutes to make in a blender

Lemonade and summer go hand-in-hand unlike any other combo. So, it’s worth trying a unique version of this drink called Brazilian lemonade. This lemonade is sweet and creamy with the help of five ingredients — one of which is fresh limes (more on that later). You can make a big batch of this lemonade in 10 minutes using your trusty blender. Keep reading for tips on making Brazilian lemonade that’s sure to help you beat the heat!

The ingredients in Brazilian lemonade

Brazilian lemonade (also called limonada suíça) is made by blending limes, sugar, water, sweetened condensed milk and ice. The result is a drink that’s sweet, citrusy and frothy. While it’s not widely known when this drink was invented, a street vendor in Brazil is believed to have created it. This lemonade’s popularity has grown in recent years, especially with online chefs making their own versions for a worldwide audience. In addition to its rich taste, this lemonade is easy to whip up at home and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Why this drink is called lemonade

Calling this drink a lemonade may seem confusing since it’s not made with lemons. However, in Portuguese the word limonada, which directly translates to lemonade, can also be used to describe limeade. As long as you nail the basics of this drink, you’ll be on your way to serving up a refreshing sip to guests!

Best tool for a smooth and creamy drink

With this drink, you don’t have to worry about juicing and zesting the limes to get that citrus flavor. Instead, you’ll blend quartered limes with water until it forms a liquid base. Then, the mixture is strained to remove any peel, flesh and seeds. A fine mesh sieve will do the trick for catching those unwanted bits of lime. But, a larger hole strainer lined with cheesecloth should get the job done too. Once your mixture is strained, follow the remaining steps in the recipe.
