See the Viral Video of NHL Player Max Pacioretty Making a Young Hockey Fan’s Day

When a young Carolina Hurricanes fan's ice cream took a tumble, the NHL player came to the rescue

There are few things worse than a highly anticipated ice cream cone taking a tumble, especially if you’re a little kid. Amid enjoying that cone piled high with creamy goodness, your hand slips, the weight ratio is off and before you know it, your sweet treat has gone splat across the floor. While this was the unfortunate series of events that took place for a young fan attending a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game back in 2022, the viral video that has started re-circulating on Reddit shows a turn of events we can’t help but smile at.

In the video, a young boy is seated in the stands beside a man that’s presumably his father, enjoying an ice cream cone. When the cone slips from his hands, the disappointment is evident — but not for long.

Enter Max Pacioretty, an NHL player who, at the time, was sidelined with an Achilles injury. The pro-hockey player met the young boy down in the stands with a brand-new ice cream cone after seeing the entire debacle go down, surely making this game one to remember for the young hockey fan!

Pacioretty’s kind gesture was a heartwarming display, and certainly has people talking once again. While many were recounting their own similar ice cream mishaps, others were celebrating the sweet moment.

“That is Max Pacioretty. He is a great hockey player who was traded to Carolina with an injury, and then suffered another injury a few days after recovering from said injury. He was in the press box and saw the kid lose his ice cream, so he bought him another one!” said one Reddit user. “Faith in humanity restored,” said another.

Viral videos at sports games

While passionate fan behavior can certainly result in some rowdiness at sporting events, many arenas offer coveted space for people to come together, and these kinds  of events have been the setting for countless viral heartwarming events.

In another viral video that took place at a baseball game, a young man in the crowd caught  a ball. Though excited at first, he quickly decides to give the ball to a little boy nearby. Later in the game, the same little boy caught a ball of his own and quickly reacted, returning the favor and giving the new ball to the young man who gifted him the first one.

“That kid immediately thought about giving the ball to the guy. I love to see stuff like this,” said one Reddit user, with another saying, “Those kids both have great parents.”

Sports fans have been treated to a slew of heartwarming videos lately, partially due to the @HopeCore videos popping up on TikTok and other social media platforms. Often compilations of meaningful interactions between strangers, reunions, kind messages and thoughtful gestures, the #HopeCore videos never disappoint and simultaneously bring  joy to even the saddest corners of the internet.

Whether it’s a video of a young boy receiving a helpful hand from a hockey pro, two baseball fans sharing an amazingly unique experience in the stands, spectators being highlighted via the jumbo screen or athletes taking the time to meet and talk to event-goers, the sports community always seems to go the extra mile.
