Tyson Is Recalling 2.5 Million Pounds of Chicken Affecting 30 States
Tyson Foods is recalling almost 2.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat breaded chicken that was shipped out to children and families across the nation. Undeclared allergens in the breading is the reason for the recall, according to Tyson’s website.
The bread crumbs, which Tyson obtained through a supplier, might have contained milk—a known allergen—but that ingredient was not listed on the packaging. Cafeterias, restaurants, and some schools used the Tyson chicken in question, prompting Tyson to issue a voluntary recall. None of the “affected products [were] not available for purchase in retail stores,” their website reads.

According to the press release, 82,760 packages of fritters, patties, and strips are affected. The products in question were all produced between August 2016 and January 2017. Tyson’s supplier notified them on June 6 with news of the milk allergen, says Delish.

Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of illness, and Tyson says, “it is unlikely that this product is currently in distribution.”
This comes just one day after Conagra Brands recalled Chef Boyardee and other spaghetti and meatball products, also citing an undeclared milk allergen.
Tyson is working with companies to ensure that their tainted products are removed from all 30 states. For more information, visit Tyson’s website, call the Tyson Foods Consumer Relations department at 866-328-3156, or email Comments@Tyson.com.
