Comments

When Surface first aired on Apple TV+ in 2022, viewers everywhere were inspired by the strong-willed and independent lead character, Sophie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). Sophie is forced to start her life over after suffering a traumatic brain injury that leaves her with little to no memory of who she truly is. It truly is a moving story that shows it’s never too late to redefine who you are.

Currently, the show is in the middle of its second season, and somehow, it’s been even more thrilling and jaw-dropping than ever. To learn more about why that is and to watch First for Women’s exclusive sneak peek at Surface season 2, episode 6, “Atonement,” keep scrolling!

What to know about ‘Surface’ Season 2

Surface Season 2 began airing in February 2025 and followed Sophie as she tried to gain access to the Huntley family, one of the most powerful and secretive families in San Francisco, California, where the show is set.

After learning more about them, Sophie learns that prior to losing all her memories, she was actually one of the Huntleys and even went by the name Tess.

“What I loved about season one is [Sophie’s] interior life and the internal journey that she is on psychologically in terms of the flashbacks and in terms of her therapist trying to figure out who she is, but it’s very much in that murky San Francisco ‘don’t know who to trust in my own house’ situation,” Mbatha-Raw told Who What Wear in March 2025. “Now, it’s like the walls have been knocked down, and it’s not within that house in San Francisco. You’ve got a whole cityscape, so that, to me, was really nice—just to be able to open things up.”

Before joining Surface, Mbatha-Raw was in Belle (2013), Concussion (2015), Beyond the Lights (2014), Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Morning Show (2019) and Loki (2021). She is 41 years old and originally from the United Kingdom.

FIRST’s exclusive sneak peek at ‘Surface’ Season 2, Episode 6

In Surface season 2, episode 6, which airs Friday, March 28, 2025, Sophie comes face to face with her birth father, Henry Huntley (Rupert Graves), who tries to buy her silence. Unsure of what to do, she then turns to her husband, James (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), for advice.

In FIRST’s clip, Sophie talks with her half-sister, Eliza Huntley (Millie Brady), about why she chose to make decisions that could potentially threaten the family’s expensive way of life.

You can watch it below!

In previous episodes, viewers have seen Sophie and Eliza working to rekindle their relationship. It’s rocky at points, which makes sense, given that one of them is struggling to remember what she liked about her family’s way of life in the first place, but it does serve as one of season 2’s main plot points.

Will there be a ‘Surface’ Season 3?

As of publication, Apple TV+ has not confirmed or denied if there will be a Surface season 3. However, if you are one of the many viewers sitting on the edge of your seat needing to know what happens next, there are three more episodes—including episode 6—in the current season.

They are expected to air on Apple TV+ every Friday at midnight EST until April 11, 2025.
