‘The Wait Will Be Worth It’: Maxton Hall Season 2 Update, Release Date, Cast News and More!
The breakout Amazon Prime TV series is going viral on TikTok for its exceptional enemies-to-lovers setup
Whether in books, films or TV shows, romance enthusiasts live for the trope. Tropes—which are plot devices or recurring romantic themes—show up in storylines as forced proximity, second-chance romance, fake dating, enemies-to-lovers, ‘opposites attract’ and more. And last year, Amazon Prime Video’s breakout YA (young adult) series Maxton Hall—The World Between Us executed the latter two tropes so perfectly that the series went viral on social media and was immediately renewed for a second season. It also became Prime Video’s biggest international original series launch ever. After topping streaming charts in more than 120 countries, the book-to-screen adaptation was grouped in “the big three” for modern coming-of-age stories, along with fellow Prime TV hit The Summer I Turned Pretty and Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys. With more than 85 million TikTok posts since the show’s release in March 2024, fans are feral for this German-language series that was adapted from Mona Kasten’s Save Me book trilogy. So it’s excellent news that Amazon finally revealed an update on when fans can expect to see James, Ruby and all their angsty drama on screen again! Keep reading to find out more about Maxton Hall season two, plot details, potential release dates, behind-the-scenes updates and more.
What is ‘Maxton Hall’ about?

The first book in the international bestselling Maxton Hall series, Save Me, follows the smart, straightlaced Ruby Bell. After Ruby is awarded a scholarship to one of England’s most prestigious and expensive private schools, Maxton Hall, she spends her days studying, planning her future at Oxford University and keeping her distance from other students—especially the rich, handsome and arrogant James Beaufort. When Ruby stumbles upon a scandal involving the Beauforts, James confronts her. As the two are forced to work together to plan the school’s upcoming gala, they clash in every possible way. But as they grow closer, Ruby finds herself drawn to James. As they both desperately fight their feelings, other dramas arise that may alter their worlds and futures.
‘Maxton Hall’ Season 2 update: What we know so far
Maxton Hall season 2 will center on Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) as they navigate their complex families, competitive private school, academic aspirations—and tragedy. According to the Prime Video announcement, season 2 will pick up right where the season 1 finale left off. “After their passionate night together in Oxford and her greatest life goal within reach, everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby. But a stroke of fate in James’ family changes everything,” the announcement reads. “Ruby is devastated. She has never had such strong feelings for anyone as she does for James—and she has never been so hurt by anyone either. She wants her old life back, where no one at Maxton Hall knew her and she wasn’t part of the elitist world of her classmates. But she can’t forget James—especially since he’s doing everything he can to win her back.”
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Herbig-Matten, who plays Ruby, said there’s a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season. “You can expect a lot of drama and ups and downs,” she said. “[James] is changing a lot and working on himself. [Ruby] is doing her thing and she’s not changing for him. She’s [setting] boundaries and that’s really important.” She also mentioned the show will highlight the power of female friendships in its sophomore season. “We focus a lot on the female friendships with Lydia, Lin and Ember,” she said. “I’m really happy about it.”
Behind-the-scenes: Filming update and casting update

The series is produced in Germany by UFA Fiction. Season two started filming in July 2024 and wrapped just a few months later in September 2024. As far as casting, an official lineup has yet to be released, but fans can look forward to seeing most of the cast from season 1 returning for season two. The series’ stars Herbig-Matten and Hardung will return. In addition, Sonja Weißer will be back as Lydia, Ben Felipe as Cyril and Fedja van Huêt as Mortimer, among others.
When is the ‘Maxton Hall’ Season 2 release date?
Maxton Hall season 2 is expected to premiere at the end of this year. (Fans, we’re thinking this could be as early as October or November 2025!) An Amazon spokesperson also just offered a behind-the-scenes update to Deadline about season two: “We want to offer fans around the globe the best Maxton Hall experience. We’re intensely working on a first-class production and music composition for the series, including comprehensive language versions. We promise the wait will be worth it.”
