Everything To Know About the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival—Cast, Plot and Who’s Back!
Get the scoop on the Disney+ reboot—plus the cast member who won’t be back on screen
Don’t count the middle child out—Malcolm in the Middle is back and so is Malcolm himself. A reboot of the 2000-2006 sitcom is coming back, thanks to Disney+ and most of your favorite cast members are set to be a part of it.
Malcolm in the Middle followed the Wilkerson family, made up of dad Hal (Bryan Cranston), mom Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and sons Francis (Francis Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan) and, of course, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz).
Who is returning for the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ reboot?
While most of the original series stars were set to return for the upcoming revival, one actor has now dropped out, leaving room for a new cast member. The character that you won’t be seeing on your screen again is none other than the youngest brother, Dewey.
According to his on-screen mom, Per Sullivan “started [Malcolm] at 7, he ended at [age] 14,” and “wasn’t into acting, at all.” The actor now attends a prestigious university and is studying Victorian literature. Per Sullivan’s role will be succeeded by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
But you can still expect to see your other favorites, including Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, Christopher Masterson, Jane Kaczmarek and Justin Berfield. New cast members will include Anthony Timpano as younger brother Jamie, Vaughan Murrae as youngest sibling Kelly, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan, and Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah.
What is the revival series about and when will it air?

The official logline for the revival gives a bit of insight as to what you can expect for the Wilkersons. This reads, “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
The series has been ordered Disney+ and they have ordered four new episodes for the revival but there is no premiere date set yet. While the original series captured the humor and heart of a typical American family, this new revival will be nothing different. The president of Disney Branded Television, Ayo Davis, shared a statement about the upcoming series.
“Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” Ayo Davis said. “Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
