As is often the case with Sex and the City and its sequel And Just Like That…, Season 2 centered heavily on love, especially Carrie’s rekindled romance with former flame Aidan Shaw, played by Corbett.

Series creator Michael Patrick King and the writers framed their reunion as a sort of “make-good” for longtime fans who felt Carrie had broken Aidan’s heart back in the original series, as he famously reminded her.

But despite the nostalgia-fueled connection, Season 2 ended with the couple going their separate ways.

Aidan, now focused on parenting his youngest son, asked Carrie to wait five years until his child is out of his teens. Torn between his responsibilities in Virginia and a life with Carrie in New York, he admitted he couldn’t juggle both.

“He snaps [his fingers] and says, ‘It’s only five years. We haven’t seen each other in 10 years and it went by like that (snaps). And five years …’ and he doesn’t snap he says because, ‘I already did and you didn’t see it; that’s how quick it was,’” King told The Hollywood Reporter, reflecting on the couple’s emotional farewell.
