Foods That Have Been Recalled in 2017 You Should Stay Away From
We told you about Tyson’s recent chicken recall, but it turns out that isn’t the only major brand you should be wary of. Over the past two months, 11 different companies have recalled some of your favorite foods for alarming reasons.
From listeria to salmonella to undeclared allergens, these foods can prove seriously dangerous. There are even a few products on the market that may contain foreign objects, like glass or plastic. That’s not something we’d want to see on our plates at dinner.
So how can you keep yourself and your family safe? For starters, you can stay up-to-date with any food recalls on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website. The Federal Food Safety website also enables you to set up recall notifications on your phone or email, or install an RSS feed that sends notifications right to your browser or desktop.
But it goes beyond just recalls. First, always check your purchases at the market to make sure that they haven’t expired. While some food can be used past their “sell by” or “best by” date, others can make you sick.
Once you’ve got your groceries home, it’s important to store everything safely, whether that means keeping it in the cabinet, the refrigerator, or the freezer. When you’re prepping your meals, cooking methods and times also play a factor. Chicken breasts, when cooked properly, can make a healty and delicious meal — but if your dinner is undercooked when you eat it, you can risk contracting salmonella.
It’s always a bummer when we have to toss our favorite frozen foods — but when it comes to recalls, you’re better safe than sorry.
