Katie Couric’s Life Looks More Exciting Than Ever

For more than a decade, Katie Couric was a morning staple in America’s collective living room as a TODAY show co-anchor alongside Matt Lauer. Then in a surprising move in 2006, she left NBC to anchor the evening news at CBS. Since leaving CBS in 2011, the 61-year-old has remained a powerhouse on the reporting scene and she’s delivered some of the most riveting interviews we’ve seen in recent years. (Who could forget her Sarah Palin interviews in in 2008?) In addition to her news work, the mom-of-two has some super exciting projects (business and personal) going on these days. Scroll down to see what Katie is doing now!

She works with “Yahoo! News.”

In 2013, after a five-year stint at CBS (and an additional three years at NBC), former Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer announced that she hired Katie as the global anchor for Yahoo! News. At the start of 2014, the award-winning journalist debuted her new job with an interview with former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gales. Then in 2015, when Yahoo! News and ABC News joined forces, Katie (as well as other Yahoo! editors) appeared in daily segments for Good Morning America. However, over the summer, after Verizon bought Yahoo! and renamed it Oath, Katie ended her contract with Yahoo! and said she preferred to work with them on a freelance basis. She wanted to focus on her production company, Katie Couric Media.

She has a podcast.

Unexpected. Unconventional. Un-buttoned up.” That’s the tagline for Katie’s eponymous podcast. Along with political journalist Brian Goldsmith, Katie interviews people from Ava DuVernay to Martha Stewart to Cory Booker — and the format is much less formal than a typical interview (hence, the tagline).

She’s hosting and producing a series called America Inside Out.

In April of this year, the six-part docuseries America Inside Out will premiere, which Katie both hosts and produces. The project was inspired by Katie’s 2017 National Geographic documentary Gender Revolution, where she examined the landscape of gender identity issues. America Inside Out will take a similar approach, focusing on hot-button issues Americans are talking about today. “For the past six months, I’ve traveled throughout the country, talking with all kinds of people about some of the most divisive topics of our time,” the Peabody award-winner wrote on her YouTube Channel. She’s upset about Matt Lauer.

Although she once admitted to Andy Cohen that Matt Lauer’s most annoying habit was that he “pinched her butt” too often, Katie is “upset” over the sexual misconduct allegations against the disgraced TODAY show host. In a recent interview with People, Katie — who was Matt’s co-anchor for almost 10 years — said, “The whole thing has been very painful for me. The accounts I’ve read and heard have been disturbing, distressing, and disorienting and it’s completely unacceptable that any woman at the TODAY show experienced this kind of treatment.” She also added that she was surprised by the situation, stating, “I think I speak for many of my former colleagues when I say this was not the Matt we knew. Matt was a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect. In fact, a joke I once made on late-night television was just that, because it was completely contrary to our brother-sister relationship. It’s still very upsetting. I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire TODAY show staff have handled a very difficult situation.”

She has a seriously adorable Instagram account.

Just as her podcast is “unfiltered,” so is Katie’s Instagram account. Not only does Katie post personal photos of herself and her family, but she also gets political and has some hilarious social commentary on public fixtures and celebrities. For instance, when she was wishing Kate Middleton a happy birthday, she called her “annoyingly perfect.”
