The Easy Trick That Helped Prince Harry Shed a Few Pounds Before His Wedding
Back when Duchess Catherine made her way down the aisle with Prince William in 2011, there was a lot of talk about the “Kate Middleton Diet” (also known as the Dukan diet) helping her keep a trim figure. She wasn’t the only royal who wanted to slim down a bit before their nuptials, though. Prince Harry and his cousin Princess Eugenie reportedly relied on advice from Gabriela Peacock, a celebrity nutritionist and close friend of the royal family, to help them shape up before their weddings — and she just shared some of her top tips.
Unlike restrictive diets, Peacock doesn’t promote any drastic cutbacks. Instead, she shifts the focus on keeping her clients’ blood sugar balanced. “That means protein with every meal, regular snacks, and good meal composition,” she told the Telegraph.
One simple method for making sure her clients are getting plenty of protein? Telling them to eat a few spoonfuls of yogurt before digging into any other food throughout the day. “By starting your meal with protein as opposed to carbohydrate, you reduce the insulin and blood sugar spikes that come from releasing carbs into your bloodstream,” Peacock explained. A bite of cheese, chicken, or other protein-heavy food can have the same effect.
Let’s all take a few seconds to imagine Harry or Eugenie carrying around little tubs of yogurt to nom on in the days leading up to their respective nuptials. Following Peacock’s advice, that would have happened five times a day — breakfast, a light lunch and dinner, and two healthy snacks (like high-fiber fruit and veggies). Thinking about them pulling out personal yogurt stashes at fancy dinner events or lunch meetings seems a bit silly, but there’s no denying they both looked great on their big days!
If the royals were really in a pinch for time, Peacock might have suggested they try intermittent fasting. “I [have them] do alternate day fasting when they really want to achieve results in a short period of time,” she explained. “My clients don’t always have three months.” Although she doesn’t go into detail about any of her clients (royal or not), we can definitely see how these suggestions would help someone shed a few pounds.
Who knows, enjoying a few bites of yogurt before your meals might be just what you were looking for to finally reach your own weight loss goals!
