Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Apartment Has a Room Only a Future King Would Have

When most of us hear the word “apartment,” we think of fairly modest living arrangements. Sure, some units can be on the more luxurious side — but likely nowhere near the same level as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s residence, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.

Despite the home’s humble title, it’s definitely fit for a future king and queen. According to Elle UK, royal author Christopher Warwick explained, “All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for apartment, they’re not.”

Kate and Will’s abode is indeed a far cry from the apartment listings us normal folk might scroll through — it has 20 rooms spanning four stories. Warwick elaborated, “If you think of Kensington Palace, in a way it is built around three courtyards. If you think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses, because they are all joined, but separate houses.”

And that’s just one section of it! The Cambridge’s apartment apparently includes three “main” bedrooms, five reception rooms (for greeting fancy guests), several bathrooms, his and hers dressing rooms, a home gym, and an entire room just to store their luggage. Apparently, never having to play a frustrating game of Tetris with massive suitcases you’re trying to fit into a closet is just another royal perk!

That said, we can’t help but wonder what it must be like for the couple (and their nannies) to chase around after their children — George (7), Charlotte (5), and Louis (2) — in all that space. We bet they’ve had some seriously long games of hide and seek.
