6 Super Sweet Stories About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle From the New Tell-All Book

If you haven’t heard by now, there’s a new book about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the shelves that claims to give us an inside look at their relationship.

Although Harry and Meghan weren’t involved in the publication themselves in any way, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, royal experts and authors of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family ($19.58, Amazon), were still able to uncover plenty of page-turning tidbits from their research and exclusive interviews.

And while some readers may be drawn into all the drama surrounding Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal life and settle down in California with their son, Archie, we were more struck by all of the incredibly sweet stories shared about the pair.

Take a look at the most heartwarming tidbits we gathered from the book, starting back in Harry and Meghan’s early days!

Instant Connection

It seems it was pretty much love at first sight for the prince. The book claims that after just a couple of initial dates, “Harry knew they would be together at that point. She was ticking every box.”

They also apparently had an instant connection on social media with Meghan following Harry’s secret Instagram account soon after their first date. They have both since deleted their profiles, but the book notes how she posted a photo of heart-shaped candy with the caption, “Lovehearts in #London,” early on in their courting. “Whether it had meaning to anyone else, Harry got the message.”

The “L” Word

Can you guess who was the first to say “I love you”? According to the book, they were both quick to start using the “L” word: “Three months into their relationship, a Meghan friend said, they had already begun swapping the words ‘I love you.’ It was Harry who said it first, but Meghan immediately replied, ‘I love you, too.’ From there it didn’t take long for them to begin talking in non-oblique terms about their future.”

Sealing the Deal

Meghan has many admirable qualities, but it was her keen eye for organization that really made things click for Harry. After a little over a month of dating, the pair made a trip to Botswana, Africa, where Harry noticed her talent for sorting out luggage.

“Meghan immediately impressed Harry with her packing skills,” the book claims. “She has always taken pride in being a great packer — going as far as layering dryer sheets in between her clothes to keep them smelling fresh.” Clearly, Harry loves a good lifehack just like the rest of us.

Staying Side-By-Side

When headlines first began to trickle out about their relationship, Harry (ever the gentleman) made the decision to stay by Meghan’s side instead of hide away in the palace.

The book explains, “Aides suggested it would be best for Harry to cut his trip [to visit Meghan] short and quietly return to London, his minimal security now something of an issue. But the prince wasn’t having it. He wasn’t budging. If things were going to get tricky, there was nowhere else he’d rather be than at Meghan’s side.” Aww!

Cozy Nights In

Perhaps one of the most relatable revelations in the book is how much Harry and Meghan have always enjoyed a nice night in together (when they weren’t traveling across the globe).

“On many nights, she and Harry curled up in his modest living room, binge-watching TV,” the authors write about the at-home date nights. They also cite Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad as two of the couple’s favorite shows to marathon.

Their First “Baby”

Furbaby, that is. Before welcoming Archie, the couple rescued a black Labrador named Pula, which is the name of currency in Botswana.

The book explains that along with being a reference to their African trip together, “The word means ‘rain’ in the Bantu language of Setswana — and for very good reason. With its semi-arid terrains, the country considers rain valuable and a blessing, just like the high-energy pooch.”

Grandma’s Blessing

Despite all the rumors of clashing with Queen Elizabeth before and after the couple’s decision to move away from the palace, the book explains that she’s always been a supportive grandma. “The Queen was wonderful, warm, and generous toward the new Duchess,” the authors claim, citing a source close to the monarch.

Elizabeth even went of her way to make Meghan feel comfortable and welcome while appearing at an event soon after her wedding to Harry. “She made sure Meghan knew what was going on and made her feel very much at home because it was her first trip,” the book explains. Elizabeth gifted her grand-daughter in-law with a pair of pear-and-diamond earrings, which we’re sure still hold a special place in Meghan’s jewelry collection.

And as for Harry and Meghan stepping down, the book claims the Queen was understandably upset — but that she also “made it clear to Harry that she would always support him in whatever he decided to do.” She’s clearly quite a doting grandma who only wants what’s best for her family. “Their conversation was also a reminder that should he and Meghan ever want to return to their roles, they were always welcome.”
