Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia Say ‘It’s Tougher With Two’ Kids
How sweet! Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden have spoken out about life as a new family-of-four — and revealed that the arrival of their second child has brought its own challenges. The couple, who are proud parents to sons Prince Alexander, 1, and two-month-old Prince Gabriel, spoke of juggling royal duties with the realities of parenting, among them, “diaper changes and sleepless nights.”
“We try to create as much family time as possible in the evenings, with bathing and getting a routine,” Sofia said in a new interview with Kupé magazine, as translated by Hello! “But ask me again in a few months. We have had small glimpses that it’s tougher with two. But there is also twice as much love.” The royal couple, who wed in a lavish ceremony in 2015, also took the opportunity to speak about their eponymous foundation, which among other things combats cyberbullying. “We are worried about similar things that other parents do such as bullying and exclusion,” Sofia continued.
“That is what we are currently working on in our foundation. We want our children to find a place in life where they feel safe and we as parents will do our best to create such a place.”
Carl Philip, 38, and Sofia, 32, welcomed their second child together in late August. The Swedish Royal Court announced the happy news in a statement. “On Thursday, Aug. 31 at 11:24 a.m., Princess Sofia welcomed a healthy and prosperous child at Danderyd Hospital,” the message read. “Both mother and child are doing well.”
Shortly after the birth was announced, the proud dad-of-two mustered up the energy to offer a brief statement to reporters. “We are really happy,” he said. “It’s a very cute boy.” He continued, “It feels great, pure joy! He seems to be a very charming little boy and Sofia is a wonderful mom. It’s overwhelming. He has a draw of both me and Sofia.” The duo released two darling new portraits to celebrate the arrival of the little prince. Taken in September by photographer Erika Geredemark at Sweden’s Gate of the Royal Palace, the first of two pastel-washed photos show the young family-of-four altogether. The second official shot shows a close-up of the newborn as he gazes toward his proud parents.
According to People, the family chose to showcase Scandinavian fashion with Sofia opting for a cream colored coat by Veronica Virta and Carl Philip wearing an understated, though perfectly tailored suit by local designer Oscar Jacobson. Meanwhile, Alexander wears a sweater, shirt, and chino pants from Swedish-based store Gant and the littlest prince, Gabriel, is said to be dressed by Norwegian brand Lillelam. In a statement accompanying the photos the couple said, “A big and warm thanks for all the kind congratulations in connection with the birth of our son Prince Gabriel. We appreciate your kindness very much.” Congratulations again!
