Meghan Markle Is Publishing a Sweet Children’s Book Inspired by Prince Harry and Archie
Meghan Markle can add “published author” to her long list of titles! The duchess is set to release her first ever children’s book, which was inspired by her own growing family.
The book is titled The Bench (Pre-order on Amazon, $18.99) and is based on a Father’s Day poem she penned for Prince Harry. The story highlights the bond between a father and son as seen through a mother’s eyes. How sweet is that? Obviously, she has a lot of personal insight into how wonderful that connection can be while watching Harry and little Archie explore life together.
The story will also include illustrations by artist Christian Robinson. Scroll through the Instagram post below for a sneak peek of the heartwarming book:
“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan said in a press release. “That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”
The title likely refers to a literal bench in Harry and Meghan’s yard where he and Archie like to spend time together. The publishers, Penguin Random House, shared another excerpt of the poem on their website:
“This is your bench
Where you’ll witness great joy.
From here you will rest
See the growth of our boy.”
The book is set to be released on June 8 — just in time for this year’s Father’s Day! Along with the hard copies, Meghan has also narrated an audiobook version that will be released the same day.
With this release, Meghan joins the ranks of other notable royals with children’s books, including her father-in-law. Prince Charles published The Old Man of Lochnagar (Buy on Amazon, $13.25) in 1980 about an old man attempting to climb a cliff in Scotland. And Harry’s aunt Sarah Ferguson (also known as Fergie) has a popular children’s series based on her 1989 book Budgie the Little Helicopter (Buy on Amazon, $32.38).
We’re sure Meghan’s story will be a delightful addition to any little one’s bookshelf!
