In 2010, Kate Middleton ignited a trend called “The Kate Middleton Effect,” also known as the “Kate Effect” or the “Duchess Effect.” Whenever Kate steps out into the limelight, fans rush to the store to find a similar look. (Though wealthier fans will splurge on the exact same outfit.) And when we say “rush,” we mean it! Take for instance when Kate visited Australia’s Blue Mountains in 2013 wearing a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress. Once the photos were released, the dress sold out in just eight minutes. How’s that for a flash sale?
