Josie Bissett Reveals the ‘Silver Lining’ Three Years After a Devastating House Fire

In First For Women’s exclusive cover story, Melrose Place actress and children’s book author Josie Bissett reveals how she was able to find a silver lining following a terrible tragedy.

In 2015, a house fire destroyed Josie’s home leaving her with next to nothing. Because of this, she tells First For Women magazine that she has learned to always look at life from a positive angle. “In a way, it just solidified a belief I already had that every day is so special,” she says. “I’ve always been someone who sees my cup as half full.”

“The silver lining is that I met Tom,” she tells the magazine. Her now-husband, Thomas Doig, a local businessman, lived in the condo complex she moved into when her house was being rebuilt.

As the relationship blossomed, the pair have had to find ways to stay connected through her busy shooting schedules for movies, like this summer’s Wedding March 4 on the Hallmark Channel. “It’s been a little bit of an adjustment for Tom because he doesn’t know this business,” she tells First. “But when the movie’s over, we say, ‘Okay, we’re going to go away for the weekend and make up for lost time.’”

One perspective that’s helped the couple, who married on July 4, 2017, grow closer: “We read The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It’s this short, sweet, fantastic book that helps the person you’re with understand what makes you feel loved. Some people need physical touch while others need quality time, and if one person’s way of feeling loved is different than their partner’s, they’re going to miss each other. I feel I need a little of all the love types.”
