When Jeremiah Brent first appeared on screen in Season 9 of Queer Eye, people fell in love with his fresh interior design and spunky ideas. They also were thrilled to learn that his life offscreen was just as glamorous, thanks to his adorable relationship with Nate Berkus, another famous interior designer. First for Women recently caught up with Brent to talk about joining the Fab Five, life with Nate, how they balance parenting and careers and the one design mistake he hopes everyone will stop making. Scroll on for his tips, reflections and exclusive scoop on what’s next.

Jeremiah Brent opens up about his marriage to Nate Berkus

Brent, 40, and Berkus, 53, have been married since 2014—they were the first same-sex couple to get married at the New York Public Library—and have since welcomed daughter Poppy Brent Berkus on March 23, 2015, and a son named Oskar in 2018.

“There have been so many chapters over the years, but, through it all, our relationship has been the most consistent thing,” Brent told First for Women. “When we met, his charisma had me instantly disarmed. The rest is history. We love sharing a home together. We love working and traveling together. We love raising the children together—we got really, really lucky.”

Brent says that one of the most important things for him to do as a dad is to take time for himself, ensuring that he is a present and proactive father.

“I wake up every morning, hours before the rest of the family, for meditation and coffee. And then I go to the trainer, which is really one of the only things that I’m selfish about.

It’s my time to recharge,” he said. “The rest of the day I’m around…for anyone! The office, Nate, the kids, production. I love having my hand in a little bit of everything.”

Jeremiah Brent spills on his time on ‘Queer Eye’

Brent joined the cast of Queer Eye in Season 9—which aired in December 2024—following the departure of the Fab Five’s former interior designer, Bobby Berk. Before the Netflix show, Brent was in The Rachel Zoe Project (2008 to 2013), Nate & Jeremiah By Design (2017 to 2019) and The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project (2021 to 2023).

“There was so much to take in,” Brent said of starting out on the show. “I really wanted to be respectful and observant of the rest of the cast and crew. They’ve all created such beauty over the past eight seasons—I knew that there was an opportunity to really watch and learn so my work and conversations would feel tangibly impactful to each hero.”

Queer Eye was renewed for Season 10, and it’s expected to be set in Washington, D.C. The release date hasn’t been announced, but Brent believes he’ll be returning as the show’s resident designer.

Jeremiah Brent talks interior design and creativity

When it comes to his interior design process, Brent is “always ready to begin something new.”

“Everyone should have an area they consider to be the heart of the home—for us, that’s the kitchen. We’ve always invested in that space the most for that reason,” Brent continued. “When it comes to things to avoid…having dedicated rooms that end up unused. Never step foot into your dining room? Turn it into a studio. Have a guest room that’s rarely full? Get a Murphy bed and turn it into your office. Homes can be far less prescriptive than you think.”

Brent also loves to keep his home a safe and peaceful place, which is why he recently teamed up with New Girl’s Max Greenfield and STEM insect traps on a campaign to promote effective ways to keep pesky bugs at bay.

“The funny thing is, as different as we may seem, we’re all in the business of home,” Brent explained. “While through opposite avenues, each of our businesses help homeowners craft a space that is inviting, calm and restful. The partnership, alongside Max, came so naturally.”
