The Queen Announces That Harry and Meghan Will Lose Their Royal Titles in New Statement
"It is my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."
Further details pertaining to Harry and Meghan’s future as royal family members have been confirmed by the Palace, with the Queen releasing another rare personal statement.
An agreement was made at the Sandringham Summit on Monday, January 13, outlining the future for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they embark on a new individual chapter, after they expressed the desire to “step back” as senior royal family members.
Yesterday the Queen released another personal statement, which directly addressed the reason why Harry and Meghan wished to step back.
“Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” the Queen stated.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”
She then thanked them for all the dedicated work they have done for their royal patronages, adding that she was particularly proud of how quickly Meghan had fit in.
“[I] am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family,” her statement read.
“It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”
Another statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed the finer details of the couple’s future as they step back from royal life.
A key element to the statement was confirmation that Harry and Meghan will no longer have HRH status after their transition.
“The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family,” the statement read.
It also confirmed that the pair would step back from a number of royal duties, including “official military appointments.”
The statement continued: “They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties. With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.”
“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.”
Another key element to the agreement confirmed the arrangement for Frogmore Cottage, which will stay under the ownership of Harry and Meghan.
In late 2018 through to 2019, the pair’s Windsor home underwent significant refurbishments – and the new statement confirmed that the Sussexes would repay £2.4 million ($3.1 million) of taxpayers money spent on the renovations.
According to Hello!, the new model for Meghan and Harry will come into effect in the British Spring, which commences in March 2020.
A source from the Palace confirmed to the publication: “The Queen has made it clear that Frogmore will continue to be the Sussexes’ home. They will repay the public expenditure on it and will pay for its upkeep. They will be paying a commercial rent on it.”
With finer details now being cleared up and finalised for the pair, it is understood they will now be styled as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
