The shocking win also means that Navarro is going to compete in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her professional career.

“I don’t have a ton of words, but just really grateful to be out here on Centre Court at a tournament with so much history and tradition that so many legends have played on before me,” Navarro said after her win. “It’s a real honor.”

She also opened up about her favorite part of the game: playing. “I love matches like that where it feels like it’s not just a hitting or striking competition. There’s strategy involved and it feels like a chess match or something, so that was really enjoyable for me.”

When is Emma Navarro scheduled to play next?

Navarro is set to play Jasmine Paolini — an Italian tennis player — in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m. EST.

Who is Emma Navarro?

The breakout tennis star was born on May 18, 2001, to Ben Navarro — who is the founder and chief executive officer of Sherman Financial Group and an avid tennis fan. This caused Navarro to grow up around the sport since her dad owns the Charleston Open. Mr. Navarro also bought the Cincinnati Open in 2022.

Navarro went to college at Virginia from 2020until 2022. While there, she was the 2021 NCAA singles champion, qualifying her for her first-ever U.S. Open, causing her to officially go pro in 2022. Before she quit being a Virginia Cavalier, the tennis player had a 51-3 singles record.

Emma Navarro’s professional tennis career

Navarro’s pro career is relatively new, but she certainly has made quite a mark on the tennis court.

In 2023, the tennis player won her first-ever tournament, the 2023 French Open. Then, in January 2024, she won her first title at the 2024 Hobart International, which helped boost her world rankings into the top 20.

Is Emma Navarro going to the Summer Olympics?

Navarro is scheduled to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

It’s pretty crazy to be able to say that I am an Olympian, and representing the U.S. is the highest of honors,” Navarro said. I’m just feeling really excited and really grateful for the opportunity.”

The athlete is also going to appear at the 2024 U.S. Open, which opens on August 26 to September 8.
