Ellen Pompeo’s Honest Comment About Motherhood Is So Relatable
It’s a comfort to know that celebs are just like us, even when it comes to parenting!
That’s why Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo’s on-air reveal has moms everywhere saying “Me, too!”
During an interview on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Pompeo admitted just how overwhelming and time-consuming it is to be a mother. As a star in a hit TV show with three young children (her youngest, Eli, is only 5 months old), four dogs, and four chickens, of course, she’s busy. With so many people vying for her attention, Pompeo can’t parent all by herself—so she doesn’t.

The 47-year-old mother of three revealed to host Ellen Degeneres that she gets a lot of help from a very special someone: her baby nurse.
“I have the most fantastic baby nurse, Jackie, who’s also backstage,” Pompeo said. “She helps me. I’d be nowhere without her because I work long days and I need help caring for [Eli]. And she’s got my back.”
While not all of us can afford to hire outside help, Pompeo’s confession illustrates the difficulties of raising a child. Whether you work inside or outside of the home, being a mother is a never-ending job that requires long hours and constant dedication. There’s no doubt that the reward of being a mother is exponentially greater than the daily struggles, but if you decide that extra help is right for you and your family, no one should judge you.
And, fortunately, when a celebrity like Ellen Pompeo proudly declares that she has helpers, it starts a global conversation about the responsibilities of being a mother and how difficult it can be to find a proper work-life balance. Just like her character Meredith on Grey’s Anatomy, Pompeo illustrates the reality of life with kids. And as a mom, we’re sure Pompeo only has what’s best for her children on her mind.
