Celine Dion Warns Fans About AI-Generated Songs Using Her Voice
The singer shared a post to Instagram detailing that her voice has been used in AI-recorded music
As the music industry deals with the rise of artificial intelligence, legendary singer Celine Dion is not staying quiet, especially regarding her music. Recently, she took to Instagram to warn fans that AI-generated music with her voice and name is circulating online. Dion expressed concern about the misuse of technology and hoped listeners would avoid these recordings. What Celine Dion shared about AI songs
While AI can mimic sound, it can’t produce the dedication, genuine talent and emotion that artists have worked on for years, which is one of the reasons Dion decided to speak up.
“It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion’s musical performances, and name and likeness, is currently circulating online and across various Digital Service Providers,” the singer said Saturday in an Instagram post.
She continued, “Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography.”
Dion did not reveal which songs or recordings AI used, but she’s not the only one wary of this technology’s impact on the industry.
Other artists have spoken out about AI in the music industry
In April of 2024, more than 200 artists signed a letter speaking out against AI-related threats in the music industry. Some names include Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Darius Rucker, the estate of Frank Sinatra, the Jonas Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, Miranda Lamber and many others.
The letter, written by the Artists Rights Alliance, a non-profit organization, called on AI developers, technology companies, platforms, and digital music services to “cease the use of artificial intelligence to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”
It also detailed the benefits of AI when used correctly, but “unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders.”
The goal is to stop devaluing music, and many artists also feel that AI can threaten their privacy, music and overall livelihood.
“This assault on human creativity must be stopped,” the letter continued. “We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights and destroy the music ecosystem.”
Celine Dion has spoken out about her music before
The Grammy winner is not afraid to speak out about her music and the permissions required to use it. In fact, during a rally in August 2024, Dion called out President Donald Trump for using her song “My Heart Will Go On“ without her permission.
In a message posted to X, Dion and her team shared a statement about the incident.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” the statement read.
They continued, “In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.
…And really, THAT song?”
Dion has been taking a break from the limelight ever since her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis but will still stand up to defend her work and her music.
