On September 11, 2024, the MTV VMAs will be airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT, honoring the music videos that have left the biggest mark over the last year. This year, the nominees for one of the biggest awards of the night, Video of the Year, include Ariana Grande for her song “we can’t be friends (wait for your love),” Billie Eilish for “LUNCH,” Doja Cat for “Paint the Town Red,” Eminem for “Houdini,” SZA for “Snooze” and Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone for “Fortnight.”

2. Lady Gaga enjoys the ceremony in a gown made of meat in 2010

After the award show that night, Gaga explained to Ellen Degenres the importance of the dress, saying, “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”

Clad in a very 80s-esque wedding gown, Madonna’s 1984 performance of her hit “Like a Virgin,” in which she rolled around and moved suggestively across the stage, was another VMA moment that left people reeling.
