It Ends With Us is a dual-timeline story that takes readers through the trials of tribulations of Boston Massachusetts florist Lily Bloom. The past timeline follows a young Lily as she deals with growing up in an abusive household, leading her to confide in a local homeless kid the same age as her named Atlas Corrigan. Flash forward to present-day where Lily Bloom just started dating neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid — but after a shocking run-in with Atlas, things quickly turn south for Lily and Ryle, causing their relationship to take a turn neither of them saw coming. What follows is a battle of bravery, strength and believing in the power of love.

A sequel book entitled It Starts With Us was published on October 18, 2022. It followed Lily Bloom as she tackled co-parenting with Ryle and learning to navigate her new relationship with Atlas. It is unclear if the sequel will be made into a movie at this time.

The It Ends With Us movie is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2024, and is expected to follow the same plot as the book. It is being directed and adapted by Justin Baldoni,, with Christy Hall and Colleen Hoover working to write the script. Blake Lively will star as Lily, Baldoni will take on the role of Ryle and Brandon Sklenar will bring Atlas Corrigan to life.

“Lily resonated with an enormous amount of people, as the success of the book made clear,” Lively said in 2023 “Stepping into a character who’s had such a meaningful impact is an honor to take on.”

I loved Lily,” she added. “And I hope that love is felt by those who care about her like I do, and also those who are getting to know her for the first time in this film.”

Hoover, meanwhile, has expressed her excitement for the project, revealing that she “cried” on the set of the film.
