Aldi Coupon Scam Is Scarily Convincing

Heads up, Aldi shoppers: There’s an Aldi coupon scam making the rounds on the internet, and it’s important that you don’t fall for the convincing fraud. The latest fake coupon, circulating on Facebook, includes a link to an illegitimate website and claims to give away $40 to anyone who completes the survey.

“Hey ALDI fans! Looks like another fake ALDI coupon is making its way around the internet,” Aldi said in a Facebook post earlier this week. “We’re sorry for any confusion, but we don’t offer electronic coupons and they won’t be accepted at our stores. We’re currently working on fixing the situation, but we’d love your help. Feel free to share this post to help us spread the word.”

Yes, you heard them right: “another.” As if one fake coupon wasn’t bad enough, reports circulated earlier this year that there was another fake coupon being spread on the web. That time, the bogus voucher offered $75 off a purchase of $80 or more.

When one skeptical Twitter user took a screenshot of the so-called coupon and posted it on the social media website, she asked Aldi’s official Twitter account if it was real.

Aldi was quick to respond, “This was not authorized by ALDI. ALDI does not issue electronic coupons. Sorry for the confusion.”

And in March, there was another fake Aldi coupon that claimed to offer customers a whopping $100 off on a purchase. Facebook user Melissa Sheriff was quick to report it when it popped up on her news feed.

“Next thing I know, everyone is sharing it,” Sheriff said. “People are sharing it on each other’s pages and messaging the coupon to each other and tagging each other in posts saying, ‘Great deal, great deal, you have to print out this coupon.'”

Yet again, ALDI needed to officially reach out to customers that it was bogus.

How to Spot a Fake Aldi Coupon

In retrospect, it may be easy to look back on these incidents and say, “I would never fall for that!” But the reality is, some scams are more convincing than others, and it’s crucial to keep your eyes peeled for any repeat fake coupons in the future for ALDI, and any other grocery store, for that matter.

A few key takeaways? If you see a page claiming to be Aldi that offers an electronic coupon, know that it’s definitely 100 percent fake. Pay close attention to any so-called “coupon” that is chock-full of typos or grammatical errors. And last but not least: If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
