5’2″ Grandma Saw Cop Being Attacked, So She Did the Unthinkable

Louisiana grandma Vickie Williams-Tillman was on her way to Sam’s Club to buy food for a Sunday meal with her husband when she spotted something disturbing happening on the side of the road.

It was a Baton Rouge police officer in the middle of a serious argument with a suspect who had drugs in his vehicle.

“They began tussling on the other side of the car,” she said. “It didn’t look good.”

Williams-Tillman called 911, but it became clear that help would not arrive in time. And Cpl. Billy Aime was in serious danger.

When Aime tried to arrest the suspect, the young man allegedly became aggressive, grabbing the officer’s baton and hitting him in the head with it.

That’s when the 5’2″ woman could not stay out of it.

“I put the window down and I asked, ‘You got it?’” Williams-Tillman said.

She said the officer mouthed the word, “no.”

She said, “The officer and I just locked eyes. I will never forget the look in his eyes. His eyes said, ‘Help me.’”

According to police, Williams-Tillman “jumped out of her vehicle and onto back of the assailant,” potentially saving the officer’s life.

“They both had their hands on the gun to see who would get it first, so I twisted the suspect’s arm,” she said. “Then we were all falling. I didn’t let go of his arm until we all fell. My tennis shoe came off in all of this, too.”

Finally, responders arrived and subdued the suspect with a stun gun. He was then taken into custody.

Afterward, Williams-Tillman said she and the officer hugged one another.

“All these emotions came out,” she says. “It was like we already knew each other.”

Now, Williams-Tillman has been hailed a hero–both by the police department and her community–for her act of courage.

“I didn’t fear anything,” she said. “There was no time to fear. I just walked in the path God had for me.”
