Plump Your Lips Naturally With This Essential Oil
Holiday outings demand that you look your most fab. Whether you’ll be rocking a bright red lip or you’re going for a more neutral tone, you’ll want your lips to look nice and plump. But there’s no need to spend money on expensive products to get the perfect pout: Cinnamon essential oil is the all-natural lip enhancer you didn’t know you already had in the house!
So how does it work? Compounds in cinnamon essential oil actually cause a mild irritation when applied to the skin. The blood then rushes to the surface, causing your lips to become slightly inflamed and puffy. But don’t worry. This is generally safe! A slight tingly feeling is normal. That being said, whenever essential oils are applied topically, you want to make sure you’re not allergic to the oil. Be sure to do a test patch on a small area of skin and look out for adverse reactions like intense burning, redness, or itchiness. Once your test patch is done, you’re ready to puff those lips!
To use cinnamon essential oil for lip plumping, there are a few ways you can apply it. First, you can make a cinnamon oil and sugar scrub. Using a lip scrub helps to slough away dead skin revealing smooth, soft skin. To do this, simply mix five drops of cinnamon essential oil with a teaspoon of sugar. You can also add another nourishing base oil like jojoba to the mixture if desired.
If you don’t need the scrub action, you can apply cinnamon oil directly to your lips. To do this, dab a drop or two of cinnamon onto your fingertip and dab it on the lips (again adding a carrier oil, if you want). Wait about 15 minutes, then rinse the oil with cool water and allow the skin to dry. Once it’s dry, slap on your favorite lipstick and get ready to hit the town! For a cinnamon oil we love, try this one from Now Foods ($6.33, Amazon).
Here’s to your plumpest pout ever!
